The "Rice Run" has begun
Some of you guys could be considered modern day profits!!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080424/.../wal_mart_rice Get it while you can. |
Re: The "Rice Run" has begun
How do you get the kids to eat something? Tell them they can't have it. How do you sell 40 pallets of rice?

Re: The "Rice Run" has begun
There is not a rice nor silver shortage... at least in the places I shop.

Re: The "Rice Run" has begun
Lots of rice where I am at, but it stays good in a vacuum seal for 8 years. Why not hedge against inflation anyway (With rice and other major staples) even if you don't believe there is a shortage. Demand is still rising.

Re: The "Rice Run" has begun
I don't understand why they are introducing limits, I thought they were in it for profit? In my business, if something is in short supply I either try to locate new supply, or raise price. No such thing as 'shortage' in a free market economy

Re: The "Rice Run" has begun
Shortages ARE showing up,around the World and even in first World nations. And our food does compete on the world market, like it or not,it isnt ours, its The WORLDS.And the world has been taking a lot of our North American food,to the highest bidder. If they buy it now, lock in purchases now for later delivery as they are doing, then it goes short, you will have shortages here, like it or not.
Add to the fact weve (world) used more wheat than produced in 6 of the last 8 years, well,do the math.Add in more crop pressures/failures and it can get ugly,FAST! Whether its at your store or not,the trend of it happening elsewhere better open your eyes.Ive found it prudent to have a pantry without ANY shortages, now that Im seeing/hearing of some I feel its even wiser to have a pantry. This is not the time to shut your eyes and ears and proclaim it isnt happening, cant happen. Its a warning sign in your face to make hay while the sun shines. |
Re: The "Rice Run" has begun
Just went to a local grocery store. They had plenty of rice in one, three, and five pound bags. It was a buck a pound no matter what size you purchased. I bought some pasta shells that were on sale, and dried beans. I think I'm going to be eating alot more bean/lentil type dishes from here on out. I'm going to hit Wally World this weekend, just to see whats happening there with shoppers, and the whole rice thing.
